Rid-Max Products USA makes its living off of flies and insects….or lack thereof. Rid-Max, a company which has been around since 1995, sells a patented trap that catches flies and other insects without the use of toxic pesticides, liquids, or messy and expensive chemical lures. The company’s web site, www.ridmax.com, has been around virtually since its inception and is looked upon as the key to the company’s success. Almost all sales are from Internet transactions and the company does not have a physical storefront. So, needless to say, the company’s web site is very important to them.
The site features a variety of features for visitors, including photos of the traps in action, testimonials, faq section and e-commerce capabilities. “I love the ability to put up fresh pictures and exciting testimonials that our customers send to us regarding their great experience with the traps,” says Carolyn Carvalho, the owner of Rid-Max. “It is a great way to share information and encourages our customers to want to share their experiences with us and to help others with their fly problems.”
Since switching to IPOWER in 2003, the company has achieved phenomenal growth. Carlvalho attributes much of this success to IPOWER’s capabilities as a host. For example, Carvalho was able to build her web site from scratch herself and can make her own changes at any time to the site. “[I can] change shipping, update pictures, testimonials, pricing, on the fly editing,” she says. “Our previous provider did not allow us to do this ourselves. We would have to pay him to make any changes and then WAIT, WAIT, WAIT until the changes were implemented before telling the public of any changes.”
In addition, with the old host, Carvalho was not given the option of freely implementing credit card payment options for their customers. “Our old provider wanted to charge us extra for that, too,” she adds. “I set up our PayPal payment options in a little over an hour and since then almost all our orders are paid via credit card.” She adds that since she has added the credit card payment functionality, the company’s sales have gone up by more than 50%.
The functionality within the vDeck control panel also lets Carvalho monitor the traffic to the site and make decisions based on the results. “We can see what keywords people are using to find us, what search engines they use, what browsers they use, etc. and then immediately implement changes or make additions, if necessary,” she says, also noting that search engine marketing decisions have been made based on these results. “We can tweak and fine tune our website to better serve our customers at a moment’s notice and that ability in itself is a very powerful business tool.”
