 Nabity Photos www.nabityphotos.com

For Ron Nabity, freelance photographer and owner of Nabity Photos in Sacramento, Calif., one of the biggest challenges he has in his business is the "FUD" factor. FUD stands for fear, uncertainty and doubt - three certain deal breakers when it comes to acquiring new clients. However, his website usually takes care of the FUD factor by showing prospective clients just how good his skills are as a photographer and gives them all the information and tools they need to easily do business with him.

Nabity's site shows his photographic range with an online portfolio displaying his extensive wedding, event, portrait, fine art and commercial work. His online portfolios are separated by type and are easy to scan through. Potential clients can view pricelists, service descriptions and read more about Nabity and his mission and values online as well. "This gives clients an unobtrusive way to consider my services without the pressure of face-to-face interaction," says Nabity.

Before Nabity went live with his website, most of his clients were local. Nabity claims his client contacts rose by 200% since his website was launched, and now he is not limited by just local promotions and word-of-mouth. In fact, his thorough website has helped him land photography assignments from clients as far away as Japan and Austria.

Nabity uses his website as a handy extension to his business as well. Immediately after he finishes covering a wedding or commercial photo job, he creates an online proof gallery for the client to begin viewing the /images/enewsletter. "This gives the client immediate feedback about the quality of the /images/enewsletter they are buying as well as keeping their enthusiasm alive," he says.

Nabity makes ordering easier with his online photo order form using Adobe Acrobat. "This form does some basic calculations like subtotals, tax and final total amounts," he says. "I incorporated the html in this form to use IPOWER's sendmail feature so the information from the form would be sent directly to my email box. This method gives customers another simple way to make a purchase without requiring an appointment. Several customers have used this form to place photo orders at their own convenience."

He also utilizes IPOWER's FTP services to send large photograph files to commercial clients that are often on tight deadlines. Nabity cites one example: "When I did a photo shoot for an Austrian magazine, they used my FTP site to download the /images/enewsletter within two days of the photo shoot. If I had to send them a CD of /images/enewsletter, it would have taken much longer. Combined with PayPal, the entire cycle of a) photo shoot, b) set up FTP site, c) client downloads /images/enewsletter and d) payment all happened within 60 hours."
